Andy Silvernail, Chair of Board of Directors

It’s truly a family affair here at Paws for Patrick. As you can see in this photo, Patrick is at the helm and in command, though not without the encouragement and support of long-time family friend, Andy Silvernail. Today, on World Mental Health Day, we are thrilled to announce that Andy will be serving as Chair of the Board of Directors and will be steering us into the future to help us expand and scale so we may connect as many young people living with mental illness to Emotional Support Animals  and Therapy Dogs as possible.

Having the shared experience of loving a family member who suffers from a mental illness is perhaps one of the most intimate bonds one will ever feel. The realities and struggles of mental illness is a shared truth between Andy, his wife Shelby, their three children, and our Founders, the Roemer family. Animals have played a significant role in the health and happiness of their families, and they know firsthand the impact a furry friend can make on one’s mental health. Shelby is also a member of our Board of Directors, serving as Chair of Development. Together, they honor Patrick and exercise their love of him by helping others through our mission.

Andy is the founder, Chair and CEO of 5 Nails, LLC, a private investment and advisory firm that unleashes the potential of industrial, life science, and consumer products companies, and he is an Executive Advisor to KKR. Andy has been Chair & CEO of both IDEX Corporation and Madison Industries. He was named one of the most powerful CEOs 40 and Under by Fortune Magazine and one of the top CEOs in America by Institutional Investor Magazine.

Andy serves on the board of directors of Stryker Corporation, is a member of the Washington Cabinet, and is a member of the 2012 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. Through the Silvernail Foundation his family has created multiple scholarships to help young people accomplish their dreams, unburden those struggling with mental illness, and invested to revitalize rural Maine.

Andy received a bachelor’s degree in Government from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. We are beyond thrilled to welcome Andy to our team!
